Article 761 - Calibration and Operational Checks


  1. Calibration records for fixed, portable, and laboratory radiation measuring equipment and individual monitoring devices, shall be maintained and include frequencies, method, dates, personnel, training and traceability of calibration sources to National Institute of Science and Technology or other acceptable standards.

  2. Calibration records should be maintained for the following equipment:

  3. Portable survey instruments
  4. Bioassay measurement equipment
  5. Laboratory, counting room and fixed radiation measuring equipment
  6. Process and effluent monitors and sampling equipment
  7. Radiation area monitors
  8. Portal monitors and other personnel contamination monitors
  9. Pocket and electronic dosimeters
  10. Air sampling equipment
  11. Tool and waste monitoring equipment
  12. Protective clothing and equipment monitors.

  • Documentation of instrument operational checks shall be maintained for a period not less than the calibration period of the instrument.

  • Maintenance histories, including the nature of any defects and corrective actions taken, and calibration results for each instrument shall be created and retained. Return to Chapter 7, Part 6 Table of Contents


Article 762 - Special Calibration Records


Records of additional tests and checks of instrumentation used in conjunction with a suspected overexposure, questionable indication or unusual occurrence should be retained. In addition, records of special instrument calibrations and modifications made in accordance with Article 562.6 should be retained.
